Lucretius was a Roman poet and philosopher. He wrote the epic philosophical poem On the Nature of Things about the tenets and philosophy of Epicureanism.
I highly recommend you pick up a copy on a rainy Sunday. If not, here’s a study guide. It’s highly readable and was far ahead of its time science-wise. Epicureanism’s hierarchy of appetites and desires is something I think of often when determining what to spend my money on. His philosophy really breaks down what actually satisfies us to make us happy, contented and tranquil. It actually reminds me a lot of Buddhism and mindful meditation.
